Aim and method

It was launched in February 1972 by Colonel Ignatius Kutu Acheampong`s National Redemption Council, the policy aimed to achieve food self-sufficiency by promoting domestic food production. Methods included public outreach, government collectivization, subsidized, agricultural inputs, and bank loans for farmers.

Background

The policy was introduced to address food shortages and reduce reliance on imported food. It sough to empower Ghanaians to engage in agriculture and increase local food production.

Monitoring and ownership

It was managed by Ghana`s Ministry of Agriculture, with implementation at national and regional levels.

Implementation and Results

While the policy was aimed to boost food production, it faced difficulties leading to its eventual failure.
