Launched as part of Sri Lanka’s efforts to tackle malnutrition and related health concerns such as stunting in children and maternal undernutrition. The country has experienced both undernutrition and growing rates of obesity and NCDs, so the policy is designed to address multiple forms of malnutrition

Monitoring and ownership

The Ministry of Health and Nutrition is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the policy, collaborating with regional health authorities and local governments

Implementation and Results

Key actions have included providing fortified foods to pregnant women, promoting breastfeeding, and incorporating nutrition education in schools. Reports indicate improvements in child nutrition and a gradual shift in public dietary habits.
